Blue Electric Sun and the pursuit of sonic happiness
Gert-Jan van der Hout and Boudewijn van der Lecq have been working together since the early nineties, first, like almost every young and aspiring musician, playing in various coverbands. At the start of this century they decided to continue their pursuit of sonic happiness as a two-piece, writing and recording their own songs. The first album, Under Current, was released in 2000, using Number Nine as the name for their music project. Under Current got some good reviews in the Dutch and British music press, but airplay was limited. The band never really split, but Gert-Jan and Boudewijn wandered of to different musical and other adventures.
During the pandemic Gert-Jan build a home studio and started working on some old songs he and Boudewijn had written, but not recorded. The two got together again and recorded an album with old and new songs. They changed their name to Blue Electric Sun and the album Ghost Radio Songs was released in the spring of 2020. They formed a band to perform the album live for an album release party.
Working on Ghost Radio Songs brought the band new inspiration and lots of new songs were being written. In 2022 Gert-Jan and Boudewijn started recording their third album: Shoreline Gold Love Quest. Although almost all of it was recorded by themselves, they knew a real band was needed to bring the album to the stage.
Now Blue Electric Sun are a five-piece band to make sure the complex instrumentation and intricate harmonies of Shoreline Gold Love Quest and the other albums can be heard live – the way the songs were intended.
